Seeing God in a Whole New Light

Good morning!  And Happy Memorial Day!  I know that I don’t have any readers right now, but in the event that I do, I just wanted to thank the Vets for serving our nation and risking/giving up their lives so that I can enjoy the freedoms we have today.

Yesterday my little family went to church, which is our normal routine Sunday mornings.  Because it was Memorial Day weekend, many families in our church were on vacation, including our pastor.  Now before you gasp at the fact that a pastor goes on vacation instead of being in church like a good shepherd should, don’t.  He always gives others an opportunity to give a message that God lays on their heart.

This particular message was delivered by Matt.  His message was about common misconceptions about salvation. It was a simple, yet profound message that I greatly enjoyed.  However, there was one thing that he said that has stuck with me.  If you are familiar with the Bible, you are probably familiar with the love chapter.  If you’re not, let me copy and paste it here for you!

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

Now, if you replace “Love” with God’s name, the meaning takes on an even more profound meaning:

(God) is patient, (God) is kind. (God) does not envy, (God) does not boast, (God) is not proud.

(God) does not dishonor others, (God) is not self-seeking, (God) is not easily angered, (God) keeps no record of wrongs.

(God) does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

(God) always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

(God) never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

You may have heard this before and maybe I have too.  But for some reason when I heard it yesterday God spoke to my heart.  It is easy to forget that God is Love.  We wouldn’t understand the true meaning of love if we didn’t have God.  Oh sure, people can claim to know what love is, but unless they have God, they are only getting an imitation, store brand, watered down version of love.

So what kind of love are you experiencing?  The “name brand” God Love or the “store brand” version? 🙂

New Beginnings

I am that person that perpetually starts a blog but never finishes it (or keeps it going, for that matter).  I always start with good intentions and ideas, but they just never pan out.  Now that summer is here and I am out of school, I need something to fill my time with.  That is, what little time I actually have to myself.  However, I cannot complain.  My time is mostly taken up by my mini task-master:  My son.  He is only 9 months old but he is such a handful!  That little boy can crawl like it’s no one’s business, climb almost any obstacle you put in front of him, and jabber as if he’s the one speaking English and we’re speaking jibberish.  I absolutely love that boy!

My husband helps as much as he can with the little Meap, but he has his hands full as well.  He is also on summer break, but I use the word break very loosely.  He is both developing curriculum for the next school year as well as working on his Master’s Degree.  So, needless to say, he is super busy and hard working.  I love that guy, too!

I started this particular blog about two years ago, but I only posted once.  Yep.  One whopping post.  I’m not sure why I didn’t continue on with it, but I decided to keep it anyways.  Glad I did.  I think it sums up what my life is about right now. I tried and tried to think of a “niche” for a blog.  I’ve tried blogging about weight loss, but it hasn’t panned out.  I’ve tried blogging about finances, and that hasn’t really worked either.  I’m not really crafty and I’m not a great cook (as you will soon find out).  I finally decided that the only thing I can blog about is the thing I know the most about – me! I am not particularly interesting nor exciting.  However, I have opinions, thoughts and feelings about all sorts of things.  Chances are, people probably will not be reading my posts to quote me in some doctoral journal or a TIME article.

But . . . that’s ok!  This will be my journal.  A place where I can talk about everything.  Weight loss (or gain) to finances to family.  And maybe, just maybe, I will make some friends along the way! 🙂
